Who's Behind the Curtain?
Seriously, what kind of a person puts on a festival like this??
For those of you who are newbies to the spectacular that is ABurlyQ, we break this burlesque and sideshow extravaganza up into a two-night, double feature. There’s a lot of work that goes into wrangling so many sequined, fathered beauties and making sure the show goes off without a hitch.
Today we will meet a few of the faces that are a part of making ABurlyQ a raving success, some behind and some in front of the curtain.
He had us at “horse circus”…
Hailing from Montreal, Domenic has been stage manager for ABurlyQ for multiple years. His resume includes stage managing the Montreal and New Orleans Burlesque Festivals, traveling the world on a ship, and spending time on the crew of a horse circus.
Hold onto your knickers, these bad boys of the burlesque world are large and in charge of keeping our audience abreast of the schedule. Not only will they be introducing you to every act, expect to be in stitches with their colorful humor. Let’s meet ‘em.
Mustang Monroe has been dazzling audiences across the country for over a decade. While he will be emceeing ABurlyQ this year, he's also no stranger to stripping. He’s a proud member of Southern Colorado's Burlesque Super Troupe, Peaks and Pasties and one third of the award winning boylesque trio The Brotherhood of Burlesque.
With and 8 banger under the hood, they're the smoothest ride in town and one of your emcee's .... It's Mustang Monroe!
Possum has spent over 20 years of his life dedicated to the stage. His repertoire includes acting, costuming, dance, singing, directing and choreographing, as well as producing shows through his company Possum Productions.
Possum studied Vocal Music Ed at NMSU, with a focus on theatre, worked in costume shops for Dona Ana Lyric Opera, Las Cruces Community Theatre, No Strings Theatre Company and Onate High School. He loves musical theatre and live performance more than alcohol and sex. Also, he’s obsessed with watching Judge Judy and often cooks in the nude. Shocking, I know.
These ladies put the “ass” in assistant! Brain + Beauty + Sass = The ABurlyQ way. We can’t really tell you what they do because they do it all. They are the grease that keep the wheels moving!
Yes, that’s her real name, and she’s a bad ass.
For years, Margarita was the Event Director and President of Babes and Bullies, a local non-profit that provides monetary aid to rescues & shelters throughout New Mexico who have bully breeds in their care. She brings all that amazing know-how to keeping us in line over here at ABurlyQ. She generously lends her skills in show production to the burlesque community. She is also furmom to celebrity doggie Finley the Pibble Pup.
Sophia is an award-winning burlesque and sideshow performer. She has performed across the globe as well as toured with the Carnivalesque Roadshow. Her performances are a combination of classic, neo, cabaret, and traditional circus sideshow. She is jumping in this year to lend her skills to ABurlyQ.
Director of Digital Marketing
Who do you think is typing this shit, yo?
And then there’s me! I manage ABurlyQ’s brand and online presence, including this website. According to this bio they make me have, I’m an award winning writer, a photographer, and social media marketer, who also brings many years of event production experience to the team. I’m also the designer of the ABurlyQ website and logo, and I took all of the pictures you see on this page except for mine, Dom’s and Mustang’s .
Oh, what? Did you think we were just not going to mention the woman who started it all? The queen bee who cracks the whip? The HBIC that makes this outta-the-world event the best burlesque festival in the galaxy?
